★ Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 1988
For the 1988 edition of Israels annual national selection, Yardena Arazi was internally selected by the Israeli broadcasting authority IBA as the national representative. Previously, she participated in the 1976 contest as a member of the group Chocolate, Menta, Mastik, which took the sixth place with the song "Emor Shalom She also participated in the 1979 contest with Daniel Peer in Jerusalem. She competed in the 1982, 1983 and 1985 national finals, finishing second in the first two and third in the latter, and co-hosted the 1987 edition with Joram Arbel. In 1988, seeing that she had a high status in Israeli popular music and still wanted to compete, the IBA decided that it would be fair to allow her to automatically take the countrys representative position and use the national final to select her song.
The Eurovision song contest 1988 Kdam took place on 27 March 1988 at the IBA Studio in Jerusalem and was hosted by Rivka Mikaeli. Arazi performed four songs, from which four national juries chose the one that will compete in Ireland. "Ben Adam", composed by Boris Dimitstein and written by Ehud Manor, who also wrote lyrics for several previous and future Israeli recordings, including the 1978 international champion" A-BA-Ni-Bi", was eventually chosen as the Israeli recording.

As the story goes, when arazi was first offered to compete in Ireland, She consulted her psychic, as she was very superstitious and wanted to make sure that it was the right choice. Her psychic informed her that the song drawn by the ninth would win the 1988 contest, which turned out to be a slot in which Israel was drawn to perform next to the Netherlands and preceding Switzerland. It agreed to do so, but only to be relegated to eighth place after the withdrawal of Cyprus, which was brought in to perform second. Switzerland, which was now playing ninth, actually won. However, Arazi was reportedly still in high spirits during her week in Dublin, and Israel came away with a very satisfying seventh place among the twenty-one competing contestants. Among its backing artists were two members of the band Milk and Honey, who won the 1979 edition with the song "Hallelujah"."Israeli jury awarded their twelve points to the Yugoslav Srebrne Creel with the song" Mangup."
