Titans (season 1)

★ Titans (season 1)

The first season of the American superhero television series Titans premiered on the DC Universe channel on October 12, 2018 and ended on December 21, 2018, consisting of 11 episodes. It was Executive produced by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Greg Walker, with Walker serving as showrunner. Created by Goldsman, Jones and Berlanti, the series is based on the DC Comics Teen Titans team. Starring Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Tegan Croft and Ryan Potter. This season also features Alan Ritchson, minka Kelly, karran Walters and Conor Leslie, who will join the main cast next season.

In the first season, the avenger dick Grayson Thwaites leaves Gotham city for Detroit, trying to distance himself from his mentor Bruce Wayne. When the mysterious Rachel Roth Croft comes to dick for protection from the dangerous forces chasing her, dick finds himself drawn into the action as he struggles to distance himself from his Robin persona and control his violent urges. Along with Corey Anders Diop, an amnesiac woman with solar powers, and Gar Logan, a werewolf animal, the four of them are fighting a threat that threatens the entire world.

The development of a live action series based on Teen Titans began in 2014, when the project was picked up by TNT. A pilot written by Goldsman and mark Himes was commissioned, but never filmed, and TNT handed over the project in 2016. Next year, Warner Bros.announced that the project will be promoted in 2018 as the first series of scenarios for the DC Universe. It was originally supposed to consist of 12 episodes, the original finale will be deleted, and the supposed penultimate episode will become the season finale.

The season received generally positive reviews, with praise for the story, characters, and performances. Criticism was directed towards the boisterous tone and cliffhanger ending. It was followed by a second season in 2019, which used the supposed finale as the basis for its premiere episode.

2.1. Production. Development. (Развитие)

A potential live-action Titans project for the TNT cable channel was announced in September 2014. By December 2014, a pilot written by Akiva Goldsman and mark Haymes had been commissioned, in which dick Grayson would step out of Batmans shadow to become Nightwing, the leader of a group of heroes including Starfire, Raven, Oracle, and hawk and dove. The pilot was set with filming set to take place in Toronto in mid-2015. In may 2015, TNT President Kevin Reilly said that they hoped to close casting by the start of filming and that the show would be "very true" to comics and "groundbreaking". The series, called "Titans" and then "blackbirds," was first scheduled to begin in Toronto in mid-2015. Then production was moved to October. In January 2016, it was announced that TNT would no longer be promoting the project. In February 2016, Geoff Johns stated: "We have been here for months and months. This is not new to us. We have plans for the titans. This is a huge chunk of Washington, and we have plans."

In April 2017, Warner Bros. announced that Titans will debut in 2018 on DC Comics own direct-to-consumer digital service. The series is being developed by Akiva Goldsman, Jones, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter, and Goldsman, Jones, and Berlanti are writing the pilot episode. The showrunner duties were assigned to Greg Walker. All of them are also Executive producers of the series for Goldsmans Weed Road Pictures and Berlantis Berlanti Productions in Association with Warner Bros.Television.

Although twelve episodes were originally announced, the twelfth episode was eventually filmed, and the eleventh episode became the finale of the first season. The alleged twelfth episode served as the basis for the premiere of the second season.

3. Reception. (Прием)

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a "certified fresh" approval rating of 80%, with an average rating of 6.66 out of 10, based on 45 reviews. The sites critical consensus reads: "despite a few tonal growing pains, Titans pays homage to its source material and really shines when its titular ensemble finally comes together." Metacritic gave the series a score of 55 out of 100, based on eight critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

Polygons Suzanne Polo praised the titans for"tempering the brutal violence and dark subject matter with humor - and giving their characters enough time to stretch, take a breath, and bond with each other." Charlie Ridgely of Comicbook.com he wrote that Diop conveys so much surprise and intrigue with her subtle and sincere expressions, but there is a consistent ferocity and tenacity that always lurks just below the surface. Rosie knight of Nerdist wrote that" the cast is at the heart of what makes titans so enjoyable," and also praised the script. Forbes writer Merrill Barr compared the show to the CWs Riverdale, describing it as "a dark and gritty series, a far cry from the image that teen Titans have assembled through various animated outlets over the past decade." Barr found that viewers "who take a tone in step will find themselves in the middle of a series scored directly to their advantage." Rob Salkowitz of Forbes wrote that Titans "somehow managed to convey the dark and sinister tone that early DC films so clearly misguided."

Kevin Yeoman of Screen Rant criticized The shows excessive violence, writing that the Titans "dont put forward any new or particularly compelling thoughts about their characters or about superheroes in General." Similarly, Wynn Mancuso of Collider said: "If youre just a fan of some kind of good old-fashioned ultra-violence and dark storytelling, this just isnt a very good example of it."

The season finale of "dick Grayson", which was originally intended as the penultimate episode, drew criticism for its slimy ending and not deciding the seasons main storyline. IGNs Jesse Schedeen gave the finale a 4/10, writing that after "the Titans started surprisingly well this year, especially considering all the baggage the series carried when it first debuted," the episode "manages to thwart that momentum and goodwill with a head-scratching and extremely unsatisfying final Chapter." Den of Geeks Mike Cecchini called the cliffhanger episodes "frustrating and like a Scam." Christian Golub wrote for Entertainment Weekly: "the journey to Nightwing will take much longer than I thought. But I was really impressed with this season as a whole, and Im excited for season 2."
