The reservoir is operated by Scottish water.
1. The iron age village. (Деревня железного века)
Immediately to the Southeast of the reservoir are the remains of an iron age hut settlement and a field system centered at NO08354982, which are clearly visible from a birds-eye view. The settlement consisted of a line of 6 circles of huts connected by a common swamp, with an isolated hut about 37 meters 121 feet to the East. The huts range from 13 meters 43 feet to 8.3 meters 27 feet between the centers of the walls. Some huts have stone fences. The field system of the iron age settlement has been noticeably preserved over the centuries and is marked by the remains of Lynches, walls and piles of cleaned stone. Since the huts are built in a straight line, they resemble a street. The prominence of the "street" is enhanced by a wall that runs parallel to a row of houses, 15 meters 49 feet to the South.
To the East-northeast of lake Benachalli, directly from the dam at the very South of the lake, is another settlement of iron age huts and a system of fields. The field system is also easily recognizable here. The hut circle settlement is oriented from Northwest to Southeast and is a larger settlement with 12 hut circles. The dimensions of the huts range from 11.3 meters 37 feet to 3.7 meters 12 feet between the centers of the walls. There are two fields-a large field to the North and West of the circle group hut, and a small field to the South.
