★ Carapacha Formation

The carapacha formation is a geologic formation of the Sierra de Calenco, Carapacha basin of La Pampa province, Argentina, whose strata date back to the Artinsky and Vuchiapingsky periods of the Permian period. The formation consists of two members: the Lower Kalenko member, named after the mountain range of the same name, and the Urre Lauken member, named after lake Urre Lauken, bordering the range to the North.

These elements are separated by inconsistency and represent a lake calen-Like and fluvial-dominant sedimentary environment. Ichnofossils of several groups of Permian reptiles and amphibians, as well as flora, were extracted from the formation. Footprints, especially on the leaves of Glossopteris, were interpreted by arthropods as signs of suction.

1. Description. (Описание)

The Carapacha basin is considered to be a continental semi-Graben of Permian age, located in the southern province of La Pampa, Central Argentina, approximately between 37 ° 30-38° 40 S and 65° 40-66 ° 20 V. the filling of the basin is about 630 meters 2.070 feet thick and consists entirely of the Carapacha formation. The base of the formation cannot be found and is covered and intruded by Permian-Triassic volcanic rocks of the Choioi group.

The karapachinskaya formation consists of red and gray arcose or lithic sandstones, mudstones and rare conglomerates. The formation was divided into two members separated by dissent, the Lower Kalenko member and the upper Urre-Lauken member. The lower element was deposited in a lake environment, while braided riverine environments dominate the upper element.
