Other pagans, including minor priests, came to him for advice, and he became their leader.
They said that combarbala lives in river jakara, known as the" Black river because of its color. The temple of Sumburera was built around a baobab tree called "Shamus". It was said that Shamus was always calm, unless there was trouble brewing in the land, when it began to scream and smoke rose from the jakara river. The pagans then sacrificed an animal, and if the smoke and shouting stopped, disaster was averted, but if it did not, disaster overtook them.
Shamus was guarded by a man named "may Cumberbun". Only Barbouche was allowed to enter, and any other trespasser died. Barbouche lived on Dala hill and never went down, except for two days, which coincided with the Islamic Eid al-Adha. When these days came, people from all over the country gathered at the foot of the hill and offered their sacrifices. These offerings included black goats, black chickens, and black dogs. In the dark of night, Barbouche descended with the drummers and led the people to their God, where they offered their sacrifices. Then the pagans danced around the sanctuary naked, chanting incantations until dawn, and then ate. Barbouche then told people prophecies about what will happen in the coming year.

"A man will come to this land with an army and take possession of us, you will see him in the sacred place of Zumburbura, if he does not come in your time, then surely he will come in the time of your children, and conquer everything in this country, and forget you and yours, and exalt himself and his people for many years to come."
The most famous barbouche prophecy spoke of a man who would come with an army and defeat them. Barbouche warned that this man would burn their Holy Trinity, build a mosque, and his people would rule over them for many years. When the pagans asked him how they could prevent this, Barbouche replied:"There is no other remedy but humility." The prophecy came true, as soon after Bagaudah and his people arrived in Kano, although it was not clear whether it was Bagaudah himself or his grandson Gijimasu who first reached the Barbouche people, it is generally accepted that it was Bagaudah.
It is said that when he reached the hill of Dala, only a few novice priests were left alive, and Barbouche himself was dead. Barbouches students quickly came to the conclusion that the prophecy had been fulfilled. Janber, Recalling the words of his leader, had vowed that if the people allowed these people to enter their land, they would rule their destinies until they lost their identity, but the people ignored his warning, wondering where Bagaudah would find the strength to defeat them.
Bagauda soon after launched a war with the people and killed the pagan leader, giving rise to the Kingdom of Kano in 999 ad. the Bagauda Dynasty ruled Kano for 808 years and lasted until 1807 ad.
