★ Ingalls Peak

Ingalls peak is a 7.662-foot, triple-topped mountain located in the Alpine lakes wilderness, along the shared border of Kittitas County and Chelan County in Washington state. Ingalls peak is the highest point in the teanaway region of the Wenatchee mountains. It is located 2 miles West of mount Stewart and directly West of Ingalls lake, on land managed by the Wenatchee National forest. Its subzones are the southern peak and the Eastern peak. Sedimentary runoff from the summit flows North To Jack Creek, a tributary of icicle Creek, West to fortune Creek, or East to Ingalls Creek, a tributary of the Wenatchee river. This peak, lake, stream, and pass are named after captain Benjamin Ingalls Of the United States cavalry, who led the survey of this area in 1855 and is credited with discovering gold in this region.

1. Climbing. (Скалолазание)

Ingalls peak is a popular climbing destination due to its generally good peridotite rock and relatively easy access. The North peak is the highest, and its easiest climbing route is rated class 4 by either the southwestern side or the Eastern ridge. The first ascent was made in 1925 by a group of mountaineers. Southern ridge is a popular route, class 5.4 of the rating. This route was first traversed by Keith Lankin and Ken Solberg on may 30, 1941. The Southeast slope was first climbed in June 1956 by Lex Maxwell and Bob McCall.

The southern peak is the easiest ascent, including only class 3 scrambling.

The Eastern peak has a classic horn shape, and the most difficult to reach the top, the Minimum climbing class is 5. This peak was first climbed by gene Prater, bill Prater, and Stan Butchark in November 1952. There are established routes on the South slope, southwest slope, and dyke Chimney East ridge.

2. Climate. (Климат)

Located East of the cascade range, the area around Ingalls peak is slightly drier than areas to the West. Summer can bring warm temperatures and occasional thunderstorms. Most weather fronts originate in the Pacific ocean and move eastward toward the cascade mountains. As the fronts approach, they are pushed up by the peaks of the cascade range, forcing them to dump their moisture in the form of rain or snowfall on the cascade Orographic lift. As a result, the Western slopes of the cascades experience high precipitation, especially in the winter months in the form of snowfall. During the winter months, the weather is usually cloudy, but due to high pressure systems over the Pacific ocean that intensify during the summer months, there is often little or no cloud cover during the summer.

3. Geology. (Геология)

The Alpine lakes wilderness is one of the most rugged landscapes in the cascade range, with rocky peaks and ridges, deep glacial valleys and granite walls dotted with more than 700 mountain lakes. Geologic events that occurred many years ago have created a diverse topography and dramatic elevation changes over the cascade range, resulting in various climatic differences.

The history of the formation of the Cascade mountains goes back millions of years to the late Eocene epoch. Since the North American plate dominated the Pacific plate, episodes of volcanic activity persisted. In addition, small fragments of the oceanic and continental lithosphere, called terranes, created the North cascades about 50 million years ago.

During the Pleistocene period, Dating back more than two million years ago, the advance and retreat of glaciation repeatedly cleared the landscape, leaving deposits of stone debris. The last glacial retreat in the Alpine lakes region began about 14.000 years ago and occurred North of the Canada–us border 10.000 years ago. The U-shaped cross-section of the river valleys is a result of this recent glaciation. Rises and cracks in combination with glaciation have been the dominant processes which have created the tall peaks and deep valleys of the wilderness of the Alpine lakes.
