★ James Scott-Elliot
Educated at Wellington College and the Royal military College, Sandhurst, Scott-Elliot was commissioned into the Queens own Scottish Borderers on 1 February 1923.
He was sent to France with the British expeditionary force at the beginning of world war II. After being evacuated from France in June 1940, he became commander of the 6th battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland highlanders in April 1942 and landed with his battalion in North Africa in December 1942. He went on to serve as commander of the 17th Indian brigade and then as commander of the 167th 1st London brigade in Italy during the Italian campaign of the war. His brigade was the first unit to cross the river on its way North through Italy.
After the war, he became Deputy Director of military training at the War office in 1948, Deputy commander of the 51st mountain division in 1950, and then General officer commanding the 51st mountain division in November 1952, before retiring in March 1956.
From 1954 to 1961, he served as Colonel of the Royal Scottish Borderers, and from 1962 to 1967 As Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries.

In 1932, he married Cecile Marguerite Du Buisson, and they have one son and two daughters. After divorcing his first wife, he married faye Courtauld in 1971.
