★ Wag the Dog

Wag the dog is a 1997 American political satire, black Comedy film produced and directed by Barry Levinson starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro. The script for the spin doctor and Hollywood producer who fabricates a war in Albania to distract voters from a presidential sex scandal. Screenplay by Hilary Henkin and David Mamet was loosely adapted from the novel Beinharts Larry American hero.

Wag the dog was released a month before the start of the Lewinsky scandal and the subsequent bombing of al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory in Sudan by the Clinton administration in August 1998, prompting the media to compare between the movie and reality. A comparison also was made in December 1998, when the administration launched a campaign of bombing of Iraq during the trial of the impeachment of Clinton for the Lewinsky scandal. This was done in the spring of 1999, when the administration intervened in the war in Kosovo and the bombing of Yugoslavia, which coincidentally borders of Albania.

But when the CIA - in cahoots with the presidential candidate of the rival - reports that the war was going on, but is nearing an end and the media begin to focus on the presidential scandal of sexual violence. To counter this, the Motss decides to invent a hero who was abandoned behind enemy lines in Albania. Inspired by the idea that he was "discarded like an old Shoe", brean and Motss from the Pentagon to provide the team with a soldier named Schumann in captivity around which the narrative is constructed, complete with t-shirts, Patriotic songs, and faux-mass demonstrations of patriotism and solidarity. As part of the hoax, folk singer johnny Dean Willie Nelson writes a song called "old Shoe" that pressed the 78 rpm record, prematurely aged, so listeners will think it was recorded years ago, and sent to the Library of Congress to be "found". Soon, a large number of old pairs of shoes began to appear on telephone and power lines, signs that the movement unfolds.

When the team goes to get the Schumann, they discover that he is actually the criminally insane army convict. On the way back their plane crashes on way to air force base Andrews. The team survives and saves the farmer who kills Schumann after he tries to rape the daughter of farmers. On this occasion, Motss stages of development of a military funeral for Schumann, stating that he died from wounds sustained during his rescue.

Despite previously claiming that he was inspired by the challenge of Motss announces that he wants a loan and to reveal its participation, despite the suggestion Breans as Ambassador and the ominous warning that he "plays with life". After Motss refuses to back down, reluctantly Bren orders his guards to kill him. Award of writing credits on the film became controversial at the time, due to objections by Barry Levinson. After Levinson became attached as Director, David Mamet was hired to rewrite Hilary Hankins scenario, which was partially adapted from the novel by Larry Beinharts American hero.

Given the close relationship between the Levinson and Mamet, new Line cinema asked that Mamet be given only credit for the script. However, the writers Guild of America intervened on behalf of Hankins, to ensure that he got the post shared script credit, to find how the original screenwriter Henkin was created the structure of screenplays, and a large part of the history screen and the dialogue.

Levinson thereafter threatened, but did not quit the Guild, claiming that Mamet had written all the dialogue and creating the characters of Motss and Schumann, and has the most scenes in Hollywood and all the scenes in the city. Levinson attributed the numerous similarities between Hankins original version and eventually the shooting script Henkin and Mamet working from the same novel, but the WGA disagreed in its credit arbitration.
